Need for more volunteers

This week we have “lost” five volunteers, which may seem a bit careless.

We had a staff vacancy which two of our volunteers are now filling on a job share basis. The best way to find paid work is to volunteer and then if the organisation has vacancies then you have effectively done a long term trial. From our point of view it is great to be able to offer paid work to volunteers and we know that they can do a good job so it’s a win win situation except that once people get paid work they stop volunteering.

We employ some students who are at university and they recognise that doing voluntary work is going to give them the edge when it comes to getting their first graduate post. Only trouble is they do just that. One of our students has picked up some teaching work for her PhD, the other has found some temporary work for the summer and is paying her own fees so needs to earn money.

Finally our fifth volunteer is supporting his son and who has just landed a prestige position which means long hours and little time at home for family and household duties and so  he can now no longer volunteer.

All of them are moving on to greater things but it does leave a big gap in our staffing Rota and the demand for our service is growing weekly. If you would like to find out more please get in touch.

Volunteering is a great way to meet people and learn new skills and is also recognised as a wonderful way to help people back into paid work if that is what you are looking for.

All we ask for is 6 hours per week , this can be done over one full day or two half days.

Full training will be given .
